In 2022, Eddie seized the opportunity to learn the craft of making cane drone reeds from Bill Hepburn. Immersing himself in the traditional methods, Eddie honed his skills using hand tools to create high-quality cane drone reeds. He began by crafting cane bass drone reeds before progressing to cane tenor drone reeds, meticulously refining his technique and focusing on achieving the ideal tonal quality. He has recently added inverted tongue cane bass drone reeds to his shop too.
Throughout the 2023 solo season, Eddie played a PlayGauls cane bass reed while continuing to perfect his tenor reeds. His dedication to excellence was reflected in his competitive achievements, including winning the Senior Piobaireachd at both the Markinch and Luss Highland Games.
